Mobile Search Drives Conversions

We live in a mobile society. Smartphones and tablets are fundamentally changing the way we live. The number of smartphone users exceeded 2 billion worldwide in 2014. 64% of American adults own a smartphone. 7% of Americans depend on no other source for their Internet connection; their smartphone is their sole connection device.

What began with millennials has extended to boomers and now includes 64% of the American market. The proliferation of mobile has changed the way we live immensely. In fact, 46% of smartphone owners say that their smartphone is something they “couldn’t live without”. Those same users spend almost 3 hours per day on their smartphones. Clearly the opportunity is present to target these consumers.

Mobile Impacts Your Business

Given the proliferation of smartphones and mobile search, we’ve changed the foundation of the way we do business. As we mentioned in our local marketing article, it’s no longer enough just to have your business listed in Yellow Pages. You need to ensure that your business is present everywhere your customer is searching, when they are searching for you. That challenge is the core of mobile search. Ensuring that your business can be found across all mobile search platforms is essential.

Does Mobile Convert?

There’s one simple answer to this question – a resounding YES! Let’s look at some stats:

  • Mobile users visit a store within a day of conducting a local search 50%
  • Mobile searches result in action being taken within an hour, vs. in a week for desktop 70%
  • Consumers are willing to buy a product or service on a mobile-friendly site 67%

There are countless statics we can throw at you to portray how important mobile is in today’s business environment. All of these statistics back up the fact that mobile search converts.

Mobile Search Marketing Strategies

Mobile search marketing can incorporate a number of strategies. Here’s a quick checklist for the first items you should consider when targeting mobile search:

Ensure that your website is mobile-friendly. Google has updated their search algorithms to penalize sites in mobile search results if the site is not mobile friendly. Having a mobile (ideally responsive) website is the number 1 thing you can do to improve your business on mobile.
Optimize your website for location-based keywords. 50% of mobile searchers are seeking local businesses. If you are a local business, you can optimize your website for keywords in your local marketing.

Also ensure that your Google+ page is optimized. Google’s mobile search features their local listings that are powered by Google+. Keeping your Google+ page updated keeps you at the top of local search, thereby keeping you at the top of mobile.

Update your listing across ratings and review sites. In many cases, this is part of the research process that consumers partake in on their smartphones. In the case of local businesses, keep your listings updated in Yelp and similar websites.
These are just 3 of the many initiatives we take on at Worldwide Media Direct to ensure that your business is where your customers are searching, when they are searching – on their mobile phones. We’ll take the guesswork out of the always-changing, new environment that surrounds mobile earch.
